Chairman's Update: Facilities Upgrade

From Scott Jury - Chair - North Shore Riding for the Disabled Charitable Trust
Over the 2025–2026 summer, we’ve made significant strides in enhancing our facilities through a series of much-needed capital improvements and maintenance works. It has been a hugely productive period for the Trust, a real chance to get back in the saddle and make meaningful progress across the site.
It reflects the strength of our community, the generosity of our sponsors, and the dedication of the people working tirelessly behind the scenes.
The standout achievement over 2025 has been the completion of our new horse stalls kindly donated by Joy and Malcolm Todd. Truly the “mane” event of the year. These were delivered by our incredible corporate sponsor, Kalmar Construction, whose ongoing support continues to make a real and lasting impact. Their team, led on site by local contractor Murray Johnson, brought professionalism, care, and efficiency to every stage of the build. We are extremely grateful to everyone at Kalmar for their commitment and contribution. They really went the extra mile.
While the stalls are the star of the show, the surrounding infrastructure was equally important. The track connecting the barn to the western side of the arena had become a safety concern during the wetter months. Thanks to the generous support of Winstone Aggregates, we were able to stabilise, reshape, and fine-tune this key pathway, now well and truly back on track. A huge thank you to Nathan Clark for his expert contracting services. While many were taking a break, he was tirelessly working on site alongside his team to deliver a swift turnaround over the summer period, making the most of our off-riding window. We also acknowledge Skip and the team at Golden Contracting for their invaluable cartage support in bringing this work together in the first weeks of January.
We also extend a huge thank you to Coast Plumbing & Drainage Limited, and Gareth Clay in particular, for their support and expertise across the works, helping ensure everything flowed exactly as it should.
These improvements are part of a much broader vision for this area of the property, one that began at the early planning stages. We were fortunate to work alongside Allan Shanahan Architects for the design and set out of this area, and we sincerely thank Allan for helping guide that vision. We also acknowledge the expert oversight from Richard Fallas across all aspects of the stalls placement, set out, and civil design, which has been greatly appreciated.
Bringing this vision to life on the ground has been Warren Haigh, a true quiet achiever. Working through challenging conditions, tight timeframes, and unpredictable weather, Warren has taken the reins and transformed a complex site into a highly functional and well-resolved outcome, always with a positive attitude and a willingness to help wherever needed. He has gone well above and beyond, and the NSRDA cannot thank Warren enough.
Of course, this work is ongoing. We continue to identify and plan for further stormwater and site improvements to ensure the long-term resilience and safety of our facilities, our paddocks, and our ongoing commitment to work alongside the NSRDA team, keeping everything in good form for seasons to come as we continue to Reach More Riders – Change More Lives.
We would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank all those who have contributed to these works, Kalmar Construction, Winstone Aggregates including Mary-Jane Vavetuki, Haigh Contracting Warren Haigh, Decks and Renovations Ltd Nathan Clark, Golden Contracting Mark “Skip” Golden, Coast Plumbing & Drainage Limited Gareth Clay, Allan Shanahan of Shanahan Architects, and Richard Fallas. Without their support, expertise, and generosity, these outcomes simply would not have been possible.
To anyone considering works on their own property, whether small-scale improvements or larger projects, we cannot recommend these individuals and companies highly enough. Their professionalism, reliability, and commitment to quality are simply hoof-perfect.
