Based in Aubrey Road, Stillwater, North Shore RDA's goal is to "provide therapeutic horse riding for people with disabilities to improve their physical, intellectual and emotional well-being."

Riding for the Disabled was established in New Zealand in 1972, as horse riding is an enjoyable form of healthy outdoor exercise, and the 3-dimensional movement of a horse (side-to-side, up & down and forward & back) corresponds to the physiology of the human walk.

The proven benefits of riding include:

  • Improvement in physical fitness, co-ordination and mobility
  • Increased self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Improvement in learning skills, speech, colour recognition and numeracy

Children and adults with physical or intellectual disabilities or psychological conditions all benefit from therapeutic riding programmes and associated activities.
